Scrabble Word Finder
Enter the tiles on your rack and see every word you can make, grouped by length with a score for each.
To find Scrabble words with these letters, enter your tiles into a word maker and read every word they can spell, including shorter words from a subset of the tiles. Scrabble Word Finder works as a Scrabble word maker: it lists the words by length and shows each word’s tile score. This page shows how to make words from letters, how blanks change the count and how to pick the best word from a long list.
Priya had the rack S, T, O, N, E and one blank, and she kept staring at it. She typed S-T-O-N-E-? into Scrabble Word Finder and found six-letter words she had not considered, such as SONNET and STOLEN. The longest group was at the top, so she saw her best option in a few seconds.
Below you will learn what counts as a valid word, how to use blanks, how to sort by length and score, and how many words a small rack can really make.
Quick answers before you start:
- A word maker returns sub-words: any word that uses some or all of your letters.
- Type ? for a blank tile, and the tool tries every letter in its place.
- Results are grouped by length, longest first, with a tile score beside each word.
- A five-letter rack like STONE makes 46 words in the open ENABLE list.
- Counts differ between word lists, so confirm a word before you play it.
What counts as a valid word when you make words from letters?
A valid word is one that appears in the word list the tool uses and can be spelled from your tiles. You can use each tile once, and you may leave tiles unused. So the rack STONE makes STONE, but it also makes TONE, NOTE, ONE, TO and ON.
This is different from an anagram. An anagram uses every letter exactly once, so the anagrams of STONE are the five-letter words NOTES, ONSET, SETON, STENO, STONE and TONES. A sub-anagram uses some of the letters, and it is the more useful search in a game, because a short word on a premium square often beats a long word on plain squares.
Scrabble Word Finder uses a general English word list of 270,658 words. It is not an official Scrabble dictionary. Treat the output as a list of candidates, then check the word with the Scrabble word checker before you play it for points.
How do you make a Scrabble word with these letters?
You make a Scrabble word with these letters by typing them into the tool and reading the groups from longest to shortest. The steps take about ten seconds:
- Type your rack. Enter up to 15 letters. Anything that is not a letter or a ? is ignored.
- Add blanks. Put one ? for each blank tile you hold, up to 2 per search.
- Press Find Words. You can also just pause typing, because the list updates as you type.
- Read the top group first. The longest words are listed first, and they are your bingo candidates.
- Click a word. The tool starts a new search from that word’s letters.
People describe this same task with many phrases: “scrabble letters to words”, “scrabble word maker”, “scrabble word generator”, “scrabble word builder”, “scrabble words finder” and “word maker for scrabble”. Each one means the same thing here: type letters, get words. If you prefer to start from the tiles on your rack, the home page of Scrabble Word Finder is the main tool.
How does a blank tile change the words you can make?
A blank tile multiplies the number of words your rack can make, because the tool tries every letter in its place. The open ENABLE list gives these counts when checked on October 23, 2026:
| Rack | Words you can make | Longest group |
|---|---|---|
| STONE | 46 | 6 words of 5 letters |
| STONE plus one blank | 726 | 34 words of 6 letters |
So one blank turns 46 words into 726. The six-letter group includes HONEST, SONNET, STOLEN and TOKENS, and none of these can be made from the five tiles alone.
Keep one scoring rule in mind. The tool adds the normal value of every letter, including the one the blank stands in for.
In a real game a blank scores zero. For example, ZONES adds up to 14 points by tile values, but if the Z is your blank, you score only 4 on the board, as the rules summarized on Wikipedia explain. The Scrabble letter values page lists every tile value.
How do you sort by length and score in a word maker?
Scrabble Word Finder sorts the results by length first, then by score inside each length group. A longer word is not always worth more, so scan the top of every group before you decide. The long words show you bingo chances, and the high scores inside shorter groups show you where the J, K, Q, X and Z tiles pay off.
Use this order when you read a long list:
- Check the longest group. A word that uses all seven tiles earns a 50-point bonus in a real game.
- Scan the top of each shorter group. A four-letter word with a Z can outscore a six-letter word of all 1-point tiles.
- Look at the letters you keep. Playing a word that leaves a good mix of vowels and consonants helps the next turn.
Here is an example from the STONE rack. NOTES, ONSET and TONES are each worth 5 points, because every tile in STONE is worth 1. The board will decide which one is best, since it depends on where each fits and which squares it covers. If you track which tiles are still unseen, the Scrabble tile count guide shows how many of each letter exist.
Can you narrow the list with a prefix, suffix or required letters?
Yes. The Advanced options panel has three filters: Starts with, Ends with and Must include. Each one takes up to 5 letters, and the filtered words must still be spelled from your rack.
The filters match common board situations:
- Prefix: type the letter in Starts with when you want to build off a front hook.
- Suffix: type S or ED in Ends with when a word on the board can take an ending.
- Required letters: type J, Q, X or Z in Must include to find words that use your high-value tile.
There is no word length filter in the form. To see every word of one length for your rack letters, read the group headings in the results instead. Each heading is a length, such as 5-letter words, and the group below it holds every match.
Need Scrabble words with these letters and a fixed start, such as UN or RE? Put the prefix in Starts with, then run the search again and compare the new list with the old one.
How many words can a rack really make?
A six- or seven-letter rack often makes 80 or more words, and the count depends on the word list. The six-letter rack R, T, A, I, E, N makes 87 words in ENABLE: 3 six-letter words, 14 five-letter words, 24 four-letter words, 31 three-letter words and 15 two-letter words.
The word list changes the answer. For the rack PLANETS, Scrabble Word Finder lists 283 words, while ENABLE returns 227. The gap exists because word lists differ in age and coverage. Check which list your game uses: NWL2023 is the official reference in the United States and Canada, according to NASPA, and Collins Scrabble Words is used in most other countries.
Because of this gap, a good habit is to treat every result as a suggestion. The Scrabble dictionary page explains how to confirm a word and its definition.
Final Word
To get Scrabble words with these letters, enter the rack, add a ? for each blank, and read the longest group first. A word maker saves time, but the board and the dictionary still decide whether a word is playable. Use the list to learn new words and patterns, not only to rescue one hard rack.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I make words from letters in Scrabble?
Type your rack into a word maker such as Scrabble Word Finder and read the results from longest to shortest. You can use each tile once and leave tiles unused. Add a ? for each blank tile.
Is a Scrabble word maker the same as an anagram solver?
Not quite. An anagram solver uses every letter once, while a word maker also lists shorter words built from some of your letters. For a game, the shorter words matter because they may fit better on the board.
How many blank tiles can I use in one search?
You can use up to 2 question marks per search. That matches the 2 blank tiles in a standard Scrabble set.
Why does my word maker show a different number of words than another tool?
Each tool uses its own word list. Scrabble Word Finder uses a general English list of 270,658 words, and official play uses NWL2023 or Collins Scrabble Words, so counts differ.
Does the word maker know the board?
No. It works only from the letters you type, so it does not check hooks, premium squares or whether a word fits a space.
How can I find longer words from my rack?
Look at the first group of results, because the longest words are listed first. If that group is as long as your rack, those words use every tile. Playing all seven tiles in one turn scores a 50-point bonus.
